Scientific Method, Theory, Law, Cell Theory

Cell Theory all organisms are made of cells, every cell comes from an existing cell, cell is the basic unit of life
Hypothesis a proposed explanation of a scientific phenomenon that is testable
Theory a well-supported explanation of a scientific phenomenon, based on facts and evidence
Law a well-supported explanation of a scientific phenomenon, based on facts and evidence and mathematical evidence
Independent Variable a factor that can be changed or manipulated in an experiment - "I" change
Dependent Variable the factor in an experiment that responds to change - it depends on the independent variable
Cell the basic unit of life EX: muscle, bone, skin cells
Molecule made of one or more atoms bonded together EX: H2O
Tissue cells bonded together to work towards the same function EX: muscles
Organelle cellular components that carry out specific functions within the cell EX: nucleus, mitochondrion, chloroplast
Robert Hooke identified the first 'cell' in cork under the microscope
Anton van Leeuwenhook discovered 'animalcules' - bacteria and protists
Schleiden, Schwann, Virchow proposed the Cell Theory
