Scientific Method, Theory, Law, Cell Theory

| Cell Theory | all organisms are made of cells, every cell comes from an existing cell, cell is the basic unit of life |
| Hypothesis | a proposed explanation of a scientific phenomenon that is testable |
| Theory | a well-supported explanation of a scientific phenomenon, based on facts and evidence |
| Law | a well-supported explanation of a scientific phenomenon, based on facts and evidence and mathematical evidence |
| Independent Variable | a factor that can be changed or manipulated in an experiment - "I" change |
| Dependent Variable | the factor in an experiment that responds to change - it depends on the independent variable |
| Cell | the basic unit of life EX: muscle, bone, skin cells |
| Molecule | made of one or more atoms bonded together EX: H2O |
| Tissue | cells bonded together to work towards the same function EX: muscles |
| Organelle | cellular components that carry out specific functions within the cell EX: nucleus, mitochondrion, chloroplast |
| Robert Hooke | identified the first 'cell' in cork under the microscope |
| Anton van Leeuwenhook | discovered 'animalcules' - bacteria and protists |
