Effects during the perioperative period

| Saw Palmetto | May have additive effects with other hormone therapies |
| St. John's Wort | May prolong the effects of anesthetic agents |
| Valerian | May prolong effects of certain anesthestics or antiseizure medications; may cause liver injury |
| Vitamin E | May increase bleeding, especially in patients taking anticoagulants; may affect thyroid gland function; in high doses may increase BP in patients who already have high BP |
