| Exocrine Glands | Release substances into ducts |
| Endocrine Glands | Ductless, and secrete hormones in to the bloodstream |
| Hormone | A chemical messenger produced by an endocrine gland and carried in the blood to another part of the body where it has a specific effect. |
| Hypothalamus | Growth hormone - Controls the pituitary, links endocrine and nervous systems. i.e. ADH |
| Pituitary | Growth hormone i.e. FSH, LH |
| Thyroid | Thyroxin, Metabolism |
| Parathyroid | Parathormone - Calcium levels in the blood |
| Thymus | Thymosin - Maturation and activation of lymphocytes |
| Islets of Langerhans | Insulin - Stimulates cells to absorb glucose from the blood |
| Adrenals | Adrenaline - Increase heart rate, opens bronchioles |
| Ovary | Oestrogen, Progesterone - Development and maintenance of the endometrium |
| Testis | Testosterone - Primary and secondary sexual characteristics |
| Pineal | Melatonin - Regulates sleep-wake cycles |
