Exocrine Glands Release substances into ducts
Endocrine Glands Ductless, and secrete hormones in to the bloodstream
Hormone A chemical messenger produced by an endocrine gland and carried in the blood to another part of the body where it has a specific effect.
Hypothalamus Growth hormone - Controls the pituitary, links endocrine and nervous systems. i.e. ADH
Pituitary Growth hormone i.e. FSH, LH
Thyroid Thyroxin, Metabolism
Parathyroid Parathormone - Calcium levels in the blood
Thymus Thymosin - Maturation and activation of lymphocytes
Islets of Langerhans Insulin - Stimulates cells to absorb glucose from the blood
Adrenals Adrenaline - Increase heart rate, opens bronchioles
Ovary Oestrogen, Progesterone - Development and maintenance of the endometrium
Testis Testosterone - Primary and secondary sexual characteristics
Pineal Melatonin - Regulates sleep-wake cycles
