Biodiversity
| Term | Definition |

| Abiotic | Nonliving things in an environment. NEVER ALIVE! |
| Biotic | Living or once lived (dead) things in an environment; plants and animals. |
| Ecosystem | Consists of all the living and nonliving factors of the environment. |
| Population | All the organisms in an ecosystem that are the same species. |
| Primary Succession | Begins in a place without any soil, or rock |
| Secondary Succession | Begins in a place that already has soil and was once the home of living organisms. |
| Short-term | An environmental change that occurs quickly and affects organisms immediately. |
| Long-term | An environmental change that occurs slowly and affects organisms over generations. |
| Investigate | To carry out research on or study into a topic. |
| Explore | Inquire onto or discuss in detail. |
| Biodiversity | A variety of organisms in an area. |
| Dependence | Reliance upon outside environmental factors. |
