Biology definitions for the characteristics of life

| Continuity of life | The ability of organisms to exist from one generation to the next. |
| Egestion | Removal of undigested waste from the body. |
| Excretion | Removal of the waste products of metabolism. |
| Characteristics of Life | Common features shared by organisms , which separate living things from non-living things - organisation, nutrition, excretion, response and reproduction |
| Nutrition | The way organisms obtain their food |
| Metabolism | Sum of all the chemical reactions taking place in an organism |
| Reproduction | The creating of new individuals of its own kind by sexual or asexual means |
