Body Systems

TermDefinition
Anatomy The Study of the structure and function of an organism's body
Organism Any living thing.
Organ A part of an organism that carries out a special task to help it survive (Stomach, kidney, liver)
Body System A group of similar organs working together to maintain the health of the body.
Circulatory System Cycles blood throughout the body to deliver oxygen to cells.
Respiratory System Allows organisms to breathe (take in oxygen)
Skeletal System Provides support and protection for the body, (includes Bones)
Muscular System Allows the body to move using different types of muscles.
Digestive System Processes food and allows it to be changed into energy for the body.
Nervous System Allows cell to cell communication: Sends impulses along a network of nerves
Health A measure of the physical condition of the body
Nutrition Relates to eating food and vitamins to stay healthy.
Oxygen The gas needed to survive and help produce energy
Respiration The process of taking in oxygen to help produce energy
Transport The movement of materials throughout the body
