| Environment | A sum total of all the living and non-living elements and their effects that influence human life. |
| Environmental Science | Promotes the study and understanding of natural and human-caused processes in our natural environment. |
| Biotic | Describes living factors in the environment. |
| Abiotic | Non-living things |
| Environmentalist | A person who is concerned with and/or advocates for the protection of the environment. |
| Ecosystem Services | Produce the many life-sustaining benefits we receive from nature—clean air and water, fertile soil for crop production, pollination, and flood control. |
| Economic Services | Government-provided services and resources meant to help struggling individuals connect with support that can help them meet their needs. |
| Biodiversity | The amount of biological or living diversity per unit area. It includes the concepts of species diversity, habitat diversity and genetic diversity. |
| Genetic Diversity | Total number of genetic characteristics in the genetic makeup of a species, it ranges widely from the number of species to differences within species and can be attributed to the span of survival for a species. |
| Species | Classification comprising related organisms that share common characteristics and are capable of interbreeding |
| Species diversity | Measure of biological diversity observed in a particular ecological community indicating a number of species or species richness in an ecological community. |
| Speciation | How a new kind of plant or animal species is created. |
| Greenhouse gases | Gases in the earth's atmosphere that trap heat. water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) |

| Sustainability | Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. |
| Biophilia | Hypothetical human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature |
| Ecological Footprint | The measure of the demands made by a person or group of people on global natural resources. |
| Hypothesis | Testable statement about the relationship between two or more variables |
| Control Group | Group that receives, placebo, or no treatment at all in experiment. |
