TermDefinition
Cell smallest living structural unit of living matter and composes all living things
Nervous System the control system of the body- has two parts
Central Nervous System made up of the brain and spinal cord
Spinal cord a bundle of nerves that relays information from the body to and from the brain
Peripheral Nervous System made up of bundles of neurons, called nerves, that branch out to the rest of the body
Neuron carries messages throughout the body (nerve cell)
Brain the organ in the body that controls functions, movements, sensations, and thoughts
Brain stem controls heartbeat, breathing, and digestions- attached to the spinal cord
Cerebrum Largest part of the brain. Area controls muscle function, speech, thoughts, emotions, reading, writing, and learning.
Cerebellum helps coordinate movement and balance
