Viruses, Bacteria, Protists and Fungi

QuestionAnswer
What are the two main parts of a virus? Protein coat and genetic material.
Why are viruses considered non living? They do not show all the characteristics of living things, and they need a host to reproduce.
How do viruses multiply? They attach themselves to a host and insert genetic material into the cell. It instructs the cell to produce the virus's proteins and genetic material. These proteins and genetic material then assemble into new viruses.
How are viruses spread? Through the bite of an infected animal, through the air, and and through contact with bodily fluids, such as blood.
What is the cure for a viral disease? There are no cures for a viral disease. The best treatment is bed rest.
What can a doctor give you to prevent a viral infection? A vaccine.
Name some examples of viral diseases. Influenza, chicken pox, colds,AIDS.
What role does the virus's outer protein coat play in the invasion of a host cell? They fit the proteins on the surface of the host cell like a key.
