Threats to Biodiversity

Deforestation | The removal of trees faster than forests can replace themselves. |
Over-exploitation | use or extraction of a resource until it is depleted (ex: overhunting) |
Climate change | long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns due to burning fossil fuels and more greenhouse gases to trap heat around the globe |
Pollution | introducing dangerous chemicals to air, land and water |
Habitat destruction | The loss of habitat |
Invasive species | species that enter new ecosystems and multiply, harming native species and their habitats |
Overpopulation | large population that can not be sustained by their environment or resources in the long term. |
Endangered species | any species in danger of going extinct in a specific area or worldwide. |
Extinction | s when all members of a particular group die. |
