Digestive and Excretory Systems

| Calorie | A unit of energy used to describe how much energy can be obtained from foods and drinks |
| Nutritionist | A healthcare professional that promote health and wellness by creating menus and eating plans |
| Nutrients | Components required by the body to survive such as carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, and water |
| Mechanical Digestion | The process where food is chewed up in the mouth creating smaller pieces |
| Chemical Digestion | Small pieces of food have been mechanically digestive and then mixed with saliva, swallowed, transferred through the esophagus into the stomach. |
| Excretory System | The parts of the body that are responsible for removing waste |
| Urea | A chemical that is produced in the body when proteins are broken down |
| Kidneys | Bean shaped organs responsible for removing urea from the body that are part of the excretory system |
| Elimination | The end of the digestive process where waste exits the body |
| Absorption | Small molecules are transferred into the blood stream after chemical digestion to provide nutrients to the body |
