| Term | Definition |

| Pathogen | a bacterium, virus, or other microorganism that can cause disease |
| Microbe | a microorganism, especially a bacterium causing disease or fermentation |
| Macrophage | A type of white blood cell that surrounds and kills microorganisms, removes dead cells, and stimulates the action of other immune system cells |
| T cells | A type of white blood cell. Helps protect the body from infection and may help fight cancer |
| B cells | A type of white blood cell that makes antibodies |
| Antigens | a toxin or other foreign substance which induces an immune response in the body, especially the production of antibodies |
| Antibiotics | A medicine that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms |
| Antibody | a blood protein produced in response to and counteracting a specific antigen |
| Vaccine | a substance used to stimulate immunity to a particular infectious disease or pathogen |
| Herd Immunity | resistance to the spread of an infectious disease within a population that is based on pre-existing immunity of a high proportion of individuals as a result of previous infection or vaccination |
| Antivirals | an antiviral drug or medicine |
| Mutate | change or cause to change in form or nature |
