A Challenge Research

The Eye

TermDefinition
aqueous humor clear fluid filling the space between the lens and the cornea, provides nutrients to both
choroid coat a layer of blood vessels located between the sclera and the retina which absorbs light and limits reflections w/in the eye that could degrade vision
ciliary body tissue that joins the iris to the choroid and produces aqueous humor
cornea transparent membrane in the forepart of the eye, focuses the entry of light into the eye by bending the incoming light onto the lens.
iris colored tissue at the front of the eye that contains the pupil in the center; helps control the size of the pupil to let more or less light into the eye
Lens clear, flexible, convex shaped body, located between the cornea and the vitreous body; enables the changing of focus
Optic nerve bundle of nerve fibers that serves as the communication cable between the eyes and the brain
pupil small opening in the middle of the iris that let in light and focus it on the retina so you can see
Retina contains rods and cones and other nerve cells that receive and organize visual information to send to the brain
Sclera the white portion of the eye that provides protection and form
Suspensory ligament a series of fibers that connect the ciliary body of the eye with the lens, holding it in place
Vitreous humor the clear jelly that fills the eyeball behind the lens. It helps support the shape of the eye and transmits light to the retina.
