Mendelian Genetics

This stack is about Mendelian Genetics and their definitions

Genetics The study of genes and heredity
Genes The basic unit of heredity passed from parent to child
Genotype A scoring of the type of variant present at a given location (i.e., a locus) in the genome
Phenotype The observable characteristics in an individual resulting from the expression of genes
Dominant The relationship between two versions of a gene
Recessive A gene that can be masked by a dominant gene
Homozygous The presence of two identical alleles at a particular gene locus
Heterozygous The presence of two different alleles at a particular gene locus
Alleles Different forms of the same gene
Heredity The genetic heritage passed down by our biological parents
