Mendelian Genetics

Vocabulary to know

TermDefinition
Genetics The study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in organisms (from parents to offspring)
Genes A unit of heredity, which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristics of the offspring.
Genotype The genetic makeup of an organism
Phenotype The physical appearance of an organism.
Dominant Allele is present.( expressed )
Recessive Allele is hidden.(not expressed)
Heredity Genetically passed from parent to offspring
Alleles An alternative form of a gene.
Homozygous Having two identical alleles.
Heterozygous Having two different alleles.
