| Genes | The basic unit of heredity passed from parent to child. |
| Genotype | a scoring of the type of variant present at a given location in the genome |
| Phenotype | The observable characteristics in an individual resulting from the expression of genes |
| Dominant | the relationship between two versions of a gene |
| Recessive | a trait that is expressed only when genotype is homozygous |
| Heredity | the passing on of physical or mental characteristics genetically from one generation to another. |
| Alleles | One of two or more DNA sequences occurring at a particular gene locus |
| Homozygous | The presence of two identical alleles at a particular gene locus |
| Heterozygous | having two different alleles of a particular gene or genes. |
