| Homozygotes(pure) | The presence of two identical alleles at a particular gene locus. |
| Heterozygotes | Heterozygous refers to having different alleles for a particular trait. |
| Dominance | Greater influence by one of a pair of genes (alleles) that affect the same inherited character. |
| Alleles | One of two or more DNA sequences occurring at a particular gene locus |
| Zygote | fertilized egg cell that results from the union of a female gamete (egg, or ovum) with a male gamete (sperm). |
| Phenotype | an observable trait |
| Recessive | a trait that is expressed only when genotype is homozygous |
| Trait | a specific characteristic of an individual. |
| Genes | The basic unit of heredity passed from parent to child. |
| Genetics | The study of genes and heredity |
| Heredity | Heredity is the passing of genetic information and traits from parents to offspring. |
| Genotype | The genetic makeup of an organism |
