| Homozygous | Having two identical alleles of a particular gene or genes. |
| Heterozygous | Having two different alleles of a particular gene or genes. |
| Alleles | One of two or more versions of DNA sequence (a single base or a segment of bases) at a given genomic location. |
| Phenotype | The set of observable characteristics of an individual resulting from the interaction of its phenotype with the environment. |
| Genotype | The genetic makeup |
| Dominant | Most important, powerful, or influential. |
| Recessive | relating to or denoting heritable characteristics controlled by genes that are expressed in offspring only when inherited from both parents. |
| Genetics | The study of genes. |
| Genes | The functional and physical unit of heredity passed from parent to offspring. |
| Trait | A specific characteristic of an individual. |
| heredity | The passing on of physical or mental characteristics genetically from one generation to another. |
