Biology Immunity

TermDefinition
Antigen Foreign substances or organisms in the body
Pathogen Any foreign object in the body that causes disease
Antibody A chemical made by the WBC in response to antigens, each one is specific to a certain antibody/pathogen
What are the four types of Pathogens Virus, Bacteria, Fungus, Parasite
Macrophage A type of WBC that phagocytize (eats) the pathogen and antibody (they Macrophage and Pathogen both die)
What do Plasma cells do? They make antibodies for the right now
What do memory B cells do? Make antibodies that will last forever incase the body is ever reintroduced to the antigen
What is a vaccine? A dead or weakened form of a pathogen that is injected into the body which will trigger our bodies to make antibodies and memory B cells to prevent future attacks
What is active immunity? Immunity that lasts forever (memory B cells)
What is passive immunity? Immunity that is only temporary (plasma cells)
