| Portfolio | a collection of samples of a person's work put together to show his/her capabilities and qualifications. |
| Philosophy | general beliefs. concepts, and attitudes an early childhood program has about how children learn and how the program should serve and educate children |
| Professionalism | The ability to communicate (spoken/written), behave and dress in a way that promotes and demonstrates respect, leadership and good manners |
| Collaborative planning | Working together with other teachers to plan best possible lessons and a safe environment for children. |
| NAEYC | The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children. A professional organization. |
| Developmentally Appropriate Practice | Activities that are geared to different levels of ability and development in order to accommodate all children in a program |
| Professional Association (i.e. PAGE, NAEYC) | an organization designed to organize professionals, keep their knowledge up to date in the given industry, and provide liability insurance. PAGE is an example. |
| Observation | A method of learning about children and helping them based on what we are able to see and hear when with them. |
| Mandated Reporter | A requirement for all child care teachers to report any suspicion of abuse or neglect of children in their care. |
| Learning objective | specific details on what the student should learn (3 part: conditions, observable behavior, level of performance |
| Assessment | Certain tasks or products used to verify knowledge or skills a student has. |
| Positive guidance | Telling students/children what you WANT them to do instead of what you want them to stop. |
| Licensing of Daycare/Preschool | Meeting all minimum legal requirements and inspections to operate a day care or preschool in the respective state of business. |
