ECE2-03 Observation and Assessment
| Term | Definition |

| Observation | Informal or scientific means of gathering data about a student. |
| Setting | Where an observation takes place. |
| Running record | The ongoing record of all of the activity or behavior of one child. |
| Anecdotal record | The ongoing record of the specific behavior of a child. |
| Frequency Count | A tally or total of how often a behavior occurs. |
| Developmental Checklist | A series of specific skills or behaviors a child should master. |
| Baseline | The beginning point or knowledge, skill or level of activity before teaching or intervention takes place. |
| Rating Scale | A numeric measure of the ability or proficiency of a child. |
| Subjective | an observation or assessment that contains opinions of the observer or teacher. |
| Objective | An observation or assessment that contains only facts. |
| Interpret | To derive meaning from data or behavior. |
| Confidentiality | Maintaining the privacy of students and their families. |
| Learning Objective | A 3 part statement about what a student should be able to do after learning. (behavior, conditions of performance, and level of performance) |
| Assessment | A tool used to measure learning, knowledge or skill. |
| Evaluation | Interpreting the meaning of information such as test scores. |
