ECE2-11 Licensing and Accreditation

TermDefinition
Credential a formal degree or certificate that shows someone is qualified to run a workplace or business. (ie. CDA Child Development Associate, Early Childhood Education Bachelors)
Qualification A certain skill or ability that makes someone capable of working well with children.
Regulation Laws that guide what must be done or not done in caring for children.
License Certificate / certification saying you meet the minimum requirements to care for children as a business.
Accreditation Certified by a professional organization as meeting high standards to offer a business that serves children ie: QR or NAEYC
Legislation Laws that govern daycare and preschool providers
Minimum Operation Standards Least amount or minimum rules you must follow
Best Practice What research shows is the most effective way to handle situations or teach children
Observation A method or gathering information or data. Can be used to evaluate a school or daycare or a specific teacher or student.
Creative Curriculum A specific curriculum intended to train children through interest areas with specific learning goals and social opportunities.
Home Center Daycare or business that takes place at someone's home
High Scope an approach to early childhood learning that focuses on active learning
Head Start Low income families participate and in to attempt to break the pattern on poverty; focuses on literacy and preparing children well for school.
Montessori a method of teaching and learning developed in early 1900's; children learn practical tasks ie: to clean up after themselves and learn through all senses
Private Preschool Owned by an individual or a church, not by a company
Reggio Emilia an approach to early childcare that involves a great deal or art and freedom for children to seek knowledge based on curiosity.
Bright from the Start Curriculum Early childhood curriculum designed by the state of Georgia to help children get ready for kindergarten GELDS
Ratio limits depending on age, there must be a particular number of adults per group of children for the protection of the children
Center Evaluation A Daycare or Preschool being recorded, watched or graded on how well the business is operating
