| abundance | the number of organisms of a species in an area, related to population size |
| biodiversity | a measure of the variety of organisms in an area |
| biotic factors | factors caused by other organisms that affect population sizes and distributions of organisms such as competition for food |
| community | all the populations of organisms that live in an area or ecosystem |
| distribution | how organisms are spread out in an area where they are found |
| ecology | the study of living organisms and their environment |
| ecosystem | consists of all the organisms and physical factors in a fairly self-contained area such as a lake or desert |
