Biology Chapter 8B
Part 2 of Chapter 8 Vocab
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Light-independent reactions/Calvin cycle/Dark reactions | reactions in photosynthesis that do not require light; energy from ATP and NADPH is used to build high-energy compounds such as sugar |
| Photosystem I (PS700) | light energy converter and NADPH synthesis |
| Photosystem II (PS680) | ATP synthesis and hydrolysis of water |
| Electron transport chain (ETC) | series of electron carrier proteins that transfer electrons through mitochondrial membrane to generate a gradient of protons |
| ATP synthase | cluster of proteins that span the cell membrane and allow hydrogen ions (H) to pass through it in order to make ATP out of ADP |
| Photosynthetic phosphorylation/photophosphorylation | a process in which a phosphate group is added to a molecule |
| Stoma/stomata | small opening in the epidermis of a plant that allows carbon dioxide, water, and oxygen to move through and out the leaf |
| Oxidation/reduction | Loss of electrons = oxidation, gain of electrons = reduction |
