Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) → ADP a molecule that carries energy within cells, cells use to store and release energy
Heterotrophs organism that obtains food by consuming other living things (consumer)
Autotrophs organism that is able to capture energy from sunlight or chemicals and use it to produce its own food from inorganic compounds (primary producer)
Photosynthesis the process in which light energy is converted to chemical energy in the form of sugars
Pigments light-absorbing molecules used by plants to gather the sun’s energy
Chlorophyll principal pigment that gives plants their green color and captures light energy
Thylakoids saclike photosynthetic membranes found in chloroplasts, site of photosynthesis
Stroma fluid portion of the chloroplast; outside of the thylakoids
NADP+ (reducing agent) carrier molecule (and coenzyme) that carries energized electrons and hydrogen atoms to be converted into NADPH
Light-dependent reactions/Light reactions reactions in photosynthesis that use energy from light to produce ATP and NADPH
