environmental pressures factors that can cause environmental change
arid land or a climate having little or no rain; too dry or barren to support vegetation
precipitation any liquid or frozen water that forms in the atmosphere and falls back to the earth
primary consumer consume only producers; herbivores
secondary consumer consume primary consumers
tertiary consumer consume secondary consumers; carnivores
omnivore consume plants and animals
carnivore animals that eat other animals; only eat consumers
predator/prey relationship Predator: an animal that kills and eats other animals Prey: animals that are killed and eaten by other animals
camouflage disguise to hide or blend in with surroundings
chemical defense such as stench, or poisons and venoms that make consumers not want to eat them
mimicry looking like or behaving like something that is dangerous
limited resources in harsh environments with high competition means not enough resources for all organisms in the area
salinity saltiness or amount of salt dissolved in a body of water
tolerate to handle and still function properly
