Sponges are sessile. What does sessile mean? anchored to one spot; just sits there
Has pores, no true tissue, asymetrical-no symmetery, mostly salt-water-few freshwater characterisitics of sponges
spongocel a cavity or space inside of the sponge through which water flows
a large opening (mouth) of a spponge through which water flow out..may have more than one osculum
epidermis layer of cells that cover the outer surface of the sponge.
thin flattened cells of the epidermis pinacocytes
porocyte (ppor cells) cells with pores that allow water into the sponge; all over sponges body
line the inner cavity; funnel-shapped;collects food particles;involved in reproduction collar cells (chanocyte)
gelatinous layer (mesophyl) the layer between the outer body and the inner cavity
