Symbiosis "Living together" The term refers to those relationships in which dissimilar organisms live in intimate association with one another.
Parasitism one species benefits at the expense of another
Mutualism Both species benefits
Commensalism one species benefits and the other is not affected
Partners are simply the organisms involved in the symbiosis
larger partner is smaller partner is host synbiont
obligate symbiosis one or both partners must participate in the association in order to survive or to complete their life cycles
facultative symbiosis is one in which the association is not an absolute requirement
