What is combustion? The process of burning organic matter which releases carbon into the atmosphere
What three nutrients cycle through the biosphere? Carbon, water and nitrogen
What is deomposition? When bacteria break down dead organisms and release their nutrients (including carbon) back into the soil
What is one way humans impact the water cycle? Paving streets and parking lots cause flooding
How do decomposers benefit the carbon cycle? Decaying organisms need decomposers to release their carbon back into the soil
What is an example of a biotic factor being effecting by an abiotic factor in the carbon cycle? As Earth's temperatures increase, plants will no longer be able to grow
What organism is primarily responsible for nitrogen fixing in the nitrogen cycle Bacteria
What is one way humans create an imbalance in the carbon cycle? Mining and burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the air
What is an abiotic factor that would affect plant's ability to perform photosynthesis in a forest? Amount of sunlight per day
Which stage of the water cycle involves water rising into the atmosphere from plants? Transpiration
