Bone Structure

| Articular Cartilage | Thin layer of hyaline college that protects the ends of bones from friction and shock |
| Arthritis | A loss of articular cartilage |
| Red Marrow | Soft tissue full of stem cells |
| Periosteum | The membranous connective tissue that covers the outside of a long bone |
| Vascular | Filled with blood vessels |
| Osteoblasts | Bone growing cells |
| Spongy bone | Bone that is porous, with a honeycomb-like structure and is typically found at the ends of long bones. |
| Compact bone | Bone consisting of closely packed osteons and it makes up the shaft of the bone |
| Epiphyseal plate | Known as growth plates, Are made of hyaline cartilage with ossifies and regrows repeatedly as you grown in height |
| Medullary cavity | The hollow space in the shaft of bone that is filled with marrow |
| Yellow marrow | Composed primarily of adipose tissue |
| Diaphysis | The shaft of a bone, composed mainly of compact bone |
| Epiphyses | The knobby ends of bone, composed mainly of spongy bone |
| Proximal epiphyses | The end of bone that is closer to the trunk |
| Distal epiphyses | The end of bone that is farther from the trunk |
| Nutrient foramen | A tiny hole in bones that is able to send and receive blood with nutrients, oxygen and hormones |
| Osteocyte | Mature bone cells |
