Digestion in the stomach

| What are digestive juices? | Acid (hydrochloric acid, HCL), and enzyme called pepsin in stomach used for chemical digestion. |
| What is pepsin? | enzyme that breaks down protein. |
| What is protein? | one of the 6 nutrients, main function is build up, keep up and replace tissues in the body. |
| What is Chyme? | food that has been partially digested in the stomack, it is a thick, creamy liquid |
| What is an ulcer? | small hole in the stomach, causes may include too much stomach acid,not enough mucus, certain bacteria |
| What is heartburn? | condition that occurs when gastric juice backs up into the lower esophagus from the stomach, causes a burning sensation |
| What is an antacid? | substance to neutralize stomach acid |
| What is rennin? | special enzyme that breaks down milk |
| What is the pyloric sphincter? | muscle at the bottom of stomach that keeps the stomach shut so that it has a chance to digest proteins, then it opens and allows the contents of the stomach, now called chyme, to exit the stomach |
