What is biotic? living things that influence ecosystems Examples: bacteria, protists, fungi, plants & animals
What is abiotic? non-living things that influence ecosystems Examples: Water, soil, temperature
What percent of energy is transferred? 10%
What happens to the majority energy being transferred? 90% is used by organisms or released as heat.
How does energy move? Energy flows.
How does matter move? Matter cycles.
What is a limiting factor? factors that determine the carrying capacity of an environment
What is density dependent? current population size DOES matter
What is density independent? current population size doesn’t matter
What is Predation? predator/prey (hunt & kill)
What is Competition? (fight for resources)
What is Symbiosis? (species interacting together)
What is Mutualism? - both organisms benefit
What is Parasitism? - one benefits one harmed
What is Commensalism? - one organism benefits and other not affected
