MIDTERN BIOLOGY EXAM

What does DNA stand for? Deoxyribonucleic acid
What is the function of DNA? Contains the instructions needed for an organism to develop, survive, and reproduce.
Describe the general structure of DNA. Two linked strands wind around eachother like a twisted ladder.
What are the 3 parts of a nucleotide Phosphate, Sugar, and a nitrogen containing base.
How many types of nucleotides are there? Four(4): Adenine(A), Cytosine(C), Guanine(G), Thymine(T).
What is the shape of DNA? Double Helix
What is the base-pairing rule? The amount of guanine should be equal to the amount of cytosine and the amount of adenine should be equal to the amount of thymine. Further a 1:1 stoichiometric ratio of purine and pyrimidine bases should exist.
