Photosynthesis & Respiration

PHOTOSYNTHESIS Process that converts sunlight energy into chemical energy ( glucose / sugar).
GLUCOSE Sugar ~ our main energy source
AUTOTROPH " Self Feeder " organism that creates own food & energy. Ex. Producers.
HETEROTROPH "Other Feeder" organism that obtains energy by eating or absorbing nutrients. Ex. Consumers
ATP ( ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE) Energy storing molecule made by the mitochondria to power our cells.
HYDROLYSIS Using water to " slice " bonds ( changes ATP into ADP)
PIGMENTS Natural substance that gives color to animals and plants.
CHLOROPHYLL Primary pigment that plants use of photosynthesis.
CAROTENOIDS Secondary Pigments for photosynthesis.
RESPIRATION Process that converts glucose made in photosynthesis into ATP energy.
AEROBIC RESPIRATION Respiration with oxygen
ANEROBIC RESPIRATION Respiration without oxygen, two types : lactic acid & alcoholic fermentation
GLYCOLYSIS Splitting of glucose molecule in the first step of respiration
