| Term | Definition |

| PRODUCER | Makes own food~ plants and deep ocean bacteria ~ aka autotroph |
| HERBIVORE | Eats only plants products ( nuts, fruits) |
| CARNIVORE | Eats only animals ( insects count) |
| OMNIVORE | Eats both plant and animal ( squirrels eat nuts and insects! |
| CONSUMER | gets energy from another source. Needs to eat ( humans) or absorb ( fungi & bacteria) to get energy ~ aka heterotroph |
| NICHE | The role or job of an organism |
| SYMBIOSIS | Close relationship b/w two organisms |
| FOOD CHAIN | Shows the flow of energy in an ecosystem |
| SUCCESSION | Process of change in ecosystem w/one species replacing another. |
| BIOME | Environment with certain rainfall, precipitation, flora & fauna |
| HABITAT | Where an organism lives |
| PARASITISM | Relationship where 1 organism benefits / 1 harmed. |
| DECOMPOSER | Absorbs/breakdown dead organic matter ex. fungi or bacteria |
| Mutualism Relationship where both organisms benefit | Relationship where both organisms benefit ex. Bees & Flowers |
| Biome | Environment with certain rainfall, precipitation, flora & fauna |
| Primary Succession | Succession where no life existed before ex. Volcanic eruption or Glaciers melting |
| Secondary Succession | Secondary Succession Succession in a habitat that was destroyed or abandoned |
| Pioneer Community | The first species to inhabit an area, usually simple. Ex. lichen & moss |
| Flora | ~ science word for plant life... “flower” |
| Fauna | science word for animal life... “fawn” |
