Glycolysis and Cellular Respiration

QuestionAnswer
What is cell respiration? the process by which cells break down glucose and other molecules in order to acquire a supply of ATP molecules
What are the complete oxidation of a glucose molecule that takes place in cell respiration? 1. Glycolysis2. the Preparatory Reaction3. the citric acid cycle4. electron transport chain
Where does glycoclysis occure? In the cytoplasm.
Glycolysis is glucose converted to two molecules of what? Pyruvte-(anaerobic process)
What has to be present in order for cellular respiration to occur? oxygen
Where does cellular respiration occur? Inside the mitochondria
What connects glycolysis to the citric acid cycle? preparatory reaction
Preparatory reaction is the conversion of what? pyruvate to an acetyle group
What is the cyclical series of oxidation reactions that result in the produciton of NADH and FADH2? Citric Acid Cycle
What is the electron transport chain? A series of carriers which accept electrons removed from the glucose.
What are passed from carrier to carrier until received by O2, which combines with H, forming water? electrons
Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins can be used as what? energy sources
Metabolites of fats and proteins enter cell respiration at what cycle? Citric Acid Cycle

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
