| Term | Definition |

| axial surfaces | long axis of the tooth which is an imaginary line that passes through the centre of the tooth vertically |
| 4 axial surfaces | facial/vestibular (labial or buccal), lingual, mesial and distal |
| non-axial surfaces | incisal edge of anterior teeth (centrals + laterals) & occlusal surface of posterior teeth (premolars + molars) |
| why are they non-axial? | these surfaces run perpendicular (horizontally) to the long axis of the tooth |
| what is a line angle | a line that is created by two different surfaces that come together |
