Cell Structure

QuestionAnswer
Name the 3 parts of the Cell Theory - All organisms are made of cells - All existing cells are produced by other living cells - The cell is the most basic unit of life
Describe the basic structure of a prokaryotic cell They are much smaller and simpler than a eukaryotic cell, they lack organelles, they have no nucleus, and are surrounded by a cell wall
What organisms are prokaryotic? Bacteria and archaea
What organisms are eukaryotic? Animals, plants, fungus, and protists
Cell Membrane Regulates what comes in and out of the cell
Cytoplasm Regulates the cell shape and environment of the cell
Nucleus Control and storage center of the cell, where the genetic material/DNA/instructions on how the cell is supposed to work are stored
Golgi body or apparatus Modifies the proteins after being transposed from the ribosome. Does things like adding carbohydrates.
Vacuole An example of a vesicle, stores fat, central vacuole only in plant cells
Mitochondria Generates energy or ATP
Lysosomes Only in animal cells, digestive system of the cell, degrades material from outside the cell and digests components of the cell
Endoplasmic Reticulum Moves things around the cell
Ribosomes Builds proteins, and sends them to the Golgi body
Cell Wall Only in plant cells, protects the cell, provides structural support, and gives shape to the cell, not part of the cell
Chloroplast Only in plant cells, converts light energy into chemical energy
Chromosomes Located in the nucleus, helps regulate gene expression
