Genetics foldable vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Allele Different forms of a gene for one trait.
Dominant This kind of trait always shows.
Recessive This trait is hidden when the dominant trait is present
Example of purebred genotype TT
Homozygous Two of the same alleles for one trait.
Heterozygous Organism has two different alleles for one trait.
Genetics The study of how traits are inherited.
Multiple Allele trait. Traits that have more than two alleles.
Sex-linked trait. An allele inherited on the sex chromosomes of X or Y.
Punnett Square Tool used to help predict what an offspring will look like.
Example of Ratio 1:4 rabbits will be white.
Example of Probability 75% of the rabbits will have floppy ears.
Genotype The genetic makeup of an organsim. Ex: Hh
Phenotype The way the organizm looks/physical appearance. Ex: Hairy shoulders
Mutation Genes that are altered or copied incorrectly.
