kinesiology the study of muscular movement, especially the mechanics of human motion
lateral of or relating to the side; especially, of a body part
leukemia any of various acute or chronic neoplastic diseases of the bone marrow in which unrestrained proliferation of white blood cells occurs and is usually accompanied by anemia, impaired blood clotting, and enlargement of the lymph nodes, liver, and spleen
liver the largest gland of the body, lying beneath the diaphragm in the upper right portion of the abdominal cavity. It secretes bile and is active in the formation of certain blood proteins, and in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
lumen the inner open space or cavity of a tubular organ, as of a blood vessel; the bore of a tube (as a hollow needle or catheter)
malignant threatening to life, as a disease; virulent; cancerous
medial relating to, situated in, or extending toward the middle
melanoma a malignant pigmented mole or tumor
microscope an optical instrument consisting of a lens or combination of lenses for making enlarged images of minute objects
muscle a type of tissue composed of contractile cells or fibers which effect movement of an organ or part of the body
nasal cavity the cavity on either side of the nasal septum, extending from the nostrils to the pharynx, and lying between the floor of the cranium and the roof of the mouth
necrosis death of areas of tissue or bone surrounded by healthy parts
nerve one or more bundles of fibers forming part of a system that conveys impulses of sensation, motion, etc., between the brain or spinal cord and other parts of the body
nucleus a large, membrane-bound, usually spherical protoplasmic structure within a living cell, containing the cell's hereditary material and controlling its metabolism, growth, and reproduction
occipital concerning the back part of the head
olfactory pertaining to the sense of smell
oral of or relating to the mouth; used in or taken through the mouth
ostectomy surgical removal of a bone or part of bone
palpitation rapid, violent or throbbing pulsation, as an abnormal rapid throbbing or fluttering of the heart
paralysis temporary suspension or permanent loss of function, especially loss of sensation or voluntary motion
parasite an organism that grow, feeds, and is sheltered on or in a different organism while contributing nothing to the survival of its host
pelvis a basin-shaped structure of the vertebrate skeleton, composed of the hip bones on the sides, the pubis in front, and the scrum and coccyx behind, that rests on the lower limbs and supports the spinal column
plasma the clear, yellowish fluid portion of blood, lymph, or intramuscular fluid in which cells are suspended
pupil the expanding and contracting opening in the iris of the eye, through which light passes to the retina
psychology the science that deals with mental processes and behavior. The emotional and behavioral characteristics of an individual, a group, or an activity.
