Vocabulary TermDefinition
Synapsis The pairing of two homologous chromosomes, occurs in Prophase 1.
Crossing Over The exchange of genetic material between 2 homologous chromosomes; occurs in Prophase 1.
Homologous Chromosomes Two different copies of the same chromosome that organisms inherit; one from each parent.
Haploid The number of chromosomes in a gamete.
Diploid When cells have two homologous copies of each chromosome, usually one from mom and one form dad.
