(25-30 cells thick) is heavily keratinized , all dead cells, stratified squamous epithelia, and million of keratinocytes that are rubbed off daily. stratum corneum
(5 cells thick) is a clear layer, made of only thick skin, and all dead cells. stratum lucidem
(5 cells thick) are dead or dying cells. stratum granulosum
(5 to 8 cells thick) is a living layer of cells, has mitotic activity, found near a source of blood, and a group of WBC’s called macrophages which are found in the langerhan cells. stratum spinosum
(1 cell thick) has much mitotic activity, lies next to the dermis, and it is the deepest layer of the epidermis. stratum basale
most superficial compromises 20% of the dermis contiguous with the stratum basale. Blood supply which carries O2 for the living epidermis. papillary region
has dermal papalae. It forms the fingerprints. papillary level
compromises 80% of the dermis. Dense irregular and elastic fibers. reticuler layer
connects underlying organs with the dermis. Provides a layer of insulation. Contains adipose tissue. subcutaneous layer
