| Biosphere | Made up of the parts of Earth where life exists (all ecosystems) including land, water, and atmosphere. *Plant and animal kingdom together make biosphere* |
| Ecology | Scientific study of interactions of both living and nonliving factors and the interactions with each other and their environment. |
| Species | A group of similar organisms in which any two organisms can breed and produce babies that are capable of breeding. |
| Population | Group of the same species that live in the same area and can breed with each other. |
| Community | Different populations interacting and living in the same area. |
| Ecosystem | All the organisms that live in a place together with their nonliving factors in a stable environment. |
| Biome | A group of ecosystems that share similar climates and typical organisms |
| Biotic factor | Any living part of the environment with which an organism might interact (If something used to be living, it’s still biotic. Cells = Biotic). |
| Abiotic factor | Physical, or nonliving, factor that shapes an ecosystem |
| Primary producers | First producer of energy-rich compounds through the process of photosynthesis that are later used by other organisms and are also called autotrophs/phototrophs. *They make their own food, which creates energy for them to grow, reproduce and survive.* |
