ache | a continued pain as distinguished from a sudden or spasmodic pain |
acne | a chronic inflammatory disease of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles of the skin characterized by comedones, papules, pustules |
adolescence | the period from the beginning of puberty until maturity |
adult | the point in development when full maturity has been reached |
aorta | the main trunk of the arterial system of the body. |
apnea | cessation of breathing, usually of a temporary nature |
artery | on of the vessels carrying blood from the heart to the tissues |
arthritis | inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain and frequently changes in structure |
atrium | the upper chamber of each half of the heart; a cavity or sinus |
basal | pertaining to the base of anything; of primary importance |
benign | not recurrent; not malignant; mild |
biceps | muscle with two heads |
biceps brachii | muscle of the upper arm-flexes arm and forearm |
bilateral | pertaining to, affecting, or relative to two sides of the body |
binge | extreme overindulgence or excess, as in binge eating |
bioengineering | the application of engineering principles and techniques to problems in medicine and biology, as the design and production of artificial limbs and organs. |
bladder | a membranous sac or receptacle for a secretion, such as a gallbladder or the urinary bladder |
bone marrow | medulla or soft tissue in the hollow of long bones and in the extremities of long bones |
bursitis | inflammation of a bursa, especially in the shoulder, elbow, or knee joint |
capillary | one of the minute blood vessels between the terminations of the arteries and the beginnings of the veins |
carcinoma | an invasive malignant tumor derived from epithelial tissue that tends to metastasize to other area of the body |
centrum | a center of any kind, especially an anatomical center |
cerebral | of or relating to the brain or cerebrum |
