Nature of Science - Life Science

TermDefinition
Controlled Variable Factor in an experiment that is kept the same.
Evidence Data collected from scientific observations and/or experiments.
Hypothesis A testable idea or explanation that leads to scientific investigation.
Scientific Law A statement that describes and/or explains what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions.
Model A patter, plan, representation or description designed to show the structure or workings of an object, system, or concept.
Dependent Variable In a scientific investigation, the factor that changes as a result of manipulation of one or more independent variables; outcome variable.
Repetition The action of repeating an scientific investigation or something that has already been said or written.
Replication Repeating an experiment or investigation in exactly the same way to verify accurate results.
Systematic Observation Careful observation of the natural world with the aim of better understanding it.
Independent Variable The factor in a scientific observation that is deliberately changed or manipulated - test variable.
Scientific Theory An explanation for why things work or how things happen the way they do in nature.
