cell specialisation
| Term | Definition |

| nerve cell | adapted to carry electrical impulses from one place to another. long and thin. |
| sperm cell | has a nucleus with half the chromosomes from the dad, mitochondria to carry out respiration to provide energy for swimming. |
| muscle cell | elongated, contain many mitochondria to carry out respiration and provide energy for muscle contraction. |
| root hair cell | has a long and thin extension to increase the surface area, absorbs water by osmosis, absorbs minerals via active transport, lots of mitochondria. |
| xylem cell | transports minerals from the roots, hollow and dead cells, thick and strengthened cellulose wall. |
| pholem cell | living cells that transport sugars made in photosynthesis around the plant, very few parts. cell walls are thin so sugar solution can move around freely. |
