cell specialisation

TermDefinition
nerve cell adapted to carry electrical impulses from one place to another. long and thin.
sperm cell has a nucleus with half the chromosomes from the dad, mitochondria to carry out respiration to provide energy for swimming.
muscle cell elongated, contain many mitochondria to carry out respiration and provide energy for muscle contraction.
root hair cell has a long and thin extension to increase the surface area, absorbs water by osmosis, absorbs minerals via active transport, lots of mitochondria.
xylem cell transports minerals from the roots, hollow and dead cells, thick and strengthened cellulose wall.
pholem cell living cells that transport sugars made in photosynthesis around the plant, very few parts. cell walls are thin so sugar solution can move around freely.
