Why is exercise important for cardiovascular health? to strengthen your heart muscle and prevent arteriosclerosis (hardening of arteries)
What happens when ventricles contract? blood is pumped out of the heart
How does your heart beat when your pulse rate increases? faster
What is the condition when blood pressure is consistently higher than normal? hypertension
How many loops does the human circulatory system contain? 2
What is the function of white blood cells? fight the infections
How are materials carried to the cells by blood
What does the blood contain when it flows into the right atrium from the body? low in oxygen and high in carbon dioxide
What component of blood carries oxygen to the body cells? red blood cells
What eventually happens to fluid that leaks from capillaries into the surrounding tissues? returns blood to the lymphatic system
What is the condition in which artery walls thicken as the result of a buildup of fatty materials? Atherosclerosis
What heart structure prevents blood from flowing backward? valve
Which chamber of the heart pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs? right ventricel
What component of blood is 90 percent water? plasma

Explain what happens during a heart attack. What is the effect of a heart attack on heart cells? ESSAY QUESTION the blood is not able to flow good in the arteries and veins *it damages the cardiac muscle cells*
