Pre-Darwin, what did scientists think about the age and changes of the Earth? scientists believed that life on earth, including humans, was created by God thousands of years earlier and had remained unchanged over time.
What did Hutton contribute to understanding about how rocks form and the age of the earth? how soils were formed by the weathering of rocks and how layers of sediment accumulated on Earth's surface.
What did Lyell contribute to understanding of how Earth changed in the past? the formation of Earth's crust took place through countless small changes occurring over vast periods of time.
What did Lamarck propose that describe how organisms change? organisms altered their behavior in response to environmental change.
What did Malthus predict if Earths population continued to grow? if the human population continued to grow unchecked, sooner or later there would be insufficient living space and food for everyone.
