| Peristalsis | Movement in the esophagus that helps food move from the mouth to the stomach |
| Stomach | contains acid that kills harmful bacteria and pepsin that begins to digest proteins |
| Pepsin | Enzyme located in stomach acid that digests protein, it is special because it works in stomach acid |
| Small intestine | Absorbs nutrients from the dissolved food through villi |
| Villi | small finger-like projections lining the small intestines that absorb nutrients from food. |
| Large intestine | Soak up water and vitamin K from the leftover food |
| Rectum | Stores feces until it is ready to exit the body through the anus |
| Liver | Organ that makes bile, which helps digest fat |
| Gallbladder | Small organ that stores bile until it goes to the small intestine |
| Pancreas | Makes enzymes that help digest food |
| Enzyme | special chemical that helps your body break down food so it can absorb the nutrients |
