| semilunar valves | two valves serving to prevent blood from flowing back to the ventricles |
| left pulmonary artery | the artery that carries oxygen poor blood from the right ventricle into the left lung |
| inferior vena cava | the vein that carries oxygen poor blood from the legs, feet, and organs in the abdomen and pelvis to the right atrium |
| left ventricle | the CHAMBER of the heart that contracts to to pump oxygen rich blood through the aortic valve to the rest of the body |
| bicuspid (mitral) valve | the aortic valve consisting of two flaps which regulates blood flow from the heart into the aorta |
| aorta | the main artery that brings oxygen rich blood away from the heart to the body |
| left pulmonary vein | vein that carries oxygenated blood from the alveoli in the lungs to the left atrium of the heart |
| right atrium | the CHAMBER of the heart that receives oxygen poor blood from the body and pumps it to the right ventricle |
| right ventricle | the CHAMBER of the heart that passes the blood to the pulmonary artery, which sends it to the lungs to pick up oxygen |
| right pulmonary artery | the artery that carries oxygen poor blood from the right ventricle to the right lung |
| right pulmonary vein | vein that carries oxygenated blood (oxygen rich blood) from the right lung to the left atrium |
| septum | the muscular wall that divides the heart into left and right halves, preventing the mixing of oxygen rich and oxygen poor blood |
| superior vena cava | the major vein in the upper body which carries blood from the head, neck, upper chest, and arms to the heart |
| tricuspid valve | valve which opens to allow blood to flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle |
